At the ACTIVE NATURALS® INSTITUTE™, our mission is to increase knowledge of natural ingredients in skincare. We bring together leading experts in dermatology, phytoscientists and researchers at Johnson & Johnson to share knowledge and experiences, explore new technologies and champion innovations.
The ACTIVE NATURALS® – RESEARCH AWARD
The ACTIVE NATURALS® INSTITUTE™, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc., proudly supports the ACTIVE NATURALS® RESEARCH AWARD – two research awards ($30,000 each) to be awarded annually to promote dermatology research within the field of natural ingredients in Dermatology. Emphasis will be placed on supporting research that benefits the dermatology community at large and has significant potential to advance patient care.
Specific areas of interest include:
- New and existing natural ingredients to address pigmentation
- Role of natural ingredients in anti-aging formulations
- Value of natural ingredients in formulations focusing on barrier protection and repair

Award Requirements:
- M.D. degree or D.O. degree (Global)
- Dermatologist who is board-certified or board-eligible
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to natural ingredient research, either clinical or basic science with clinical applications.
- For areas of research relevant to anti-aging, pigmentation and barrier protection and repair
- Preclinical in vitro or in vivo testing; no animal testing.
- A summary of research results must be submitted at the end of the project for possible publication
The Scientific Committee of the ACTIVE NATURALS® INSTITUTE™ will assume the responsibility for reviewing Award applications, making funding recommendations, and monitoring the Awards program.

ACTIVE NATURALS® INSTITUTE™ ANNOUNCES FIRST RESEARCH AWARD RECIPIENT
In March of 2010, Johnson & Johnson Consumer and Personal products Worldwide, announced the recipient of the first ACTIVE NATURALS® RESEARCH AWARD - a $50,000 grant promoting research within the field of natural ingredients in Dermatology.
Dr. R. Rivkah Isseroff, Professor of Dermatology, University of California, Davis, was chosen to receive the first ACTIVE NATURALS® Research Award for her compelling research application. Dr. Isseroff will study the efficacy of natural products on epidermal cell migration and compare the role of natural products on in vivo human epidermal barrier recovery. "We are certain that Dr. Isseroff's work will be highly valued by the dermatology community and will help to further advance the scientific knowledge for natural ingredients," Warren Wallo, Director of Scientific Affairs at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Companies, Inc.
In 2010, the ACTIVE NATURALS INSTITUTE is offering two 30,000 grants (one U.S., one EU), expanding the scope of this important area of research in Dermatology.
